They include two mini ceramic pie dishes that can be served straight from the oven to the table. Plus measuring spoons, Blue Ribbon apple pie spice and Blue Ribbon pie crust mix. There's an oven mitt for the baker too. The pie shop has opened at home.

To make one pie, you'll need 3 Tbsp. cold unsalted butter, 1.5 Tbsp. water, and 1 small apple.

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Rinse and dry off the pie dish.
  2. Empty one bag of crust mix in a mixing bowl and mix with butter until crumbly. Stir in water until the dough comes together. Chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Core and peel the apple and cut into small chunks.
  4. Toss apple chunks in a bowl with one bag of apple pie spice mix. Work in spice mix until all pieces are coated.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into two discs - one disc about a 5 inch circle for the bottom crust and the other about a 3.5 inch circle for the top crust.
  6. Press the bottom crust into the bottom of the dish, ensuring that all sides of the dish are covered.
  7. Fill the dish with spiced apple chunks.
  8. Place the top crust over the apple chunks. Stretch to cover the entire top and press down edges with a fork to seal. Poke a few holes in the top crust.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until crust becomes golden brown. Remove pie dish with an oven mitt.
  10. Let cool for five minutes and serve!

Strolling down Broadway for holiday shopping. Theatrical windows compete for best show in town. My first stop - an eclectic housewares shop on the corner of 19th. Mini pie dishes and the cutest measuring spoon set tempt me to head back home to the kitchen for a traditional holiday baking session. A sweet force and drive for inspiration pulls me to Ceci Cela on Spring, a holiday pie palace. I open the door and take a deep breath: Pecan, pumpkin and my favorite apple spice fill me with memories built on glorious golden brown crust.
